Where It All Began
My journey into tech wasn’t exactly traditional. I didn’t grow up coding or dreaming of being a hacker. Instead, I took a winding path to get here. Coming from a background that had nothing to do with tech, I found myself in a low-paying data entry job. As a single mom, I struggled to find a career path that would provide the flexibility I needed to homeschool my son. My true passion had always been with animals, but I knew it was time for a change.
One day, I confided in my sister about feeling stuck, and she suggested web development. This was an idea I had never considered, but I remembered how much I enjoyed coding mobile games in my youth. A few months into learning web development, I discovered cybersecurity through an online gaming community, and I was immediately hooked. The thought of not just building but also securing digital spaces excited me, and that’s when I realized this was the right path for my future.
Discovering My Passion for Tech
After I started learning web development, something just clicked. I loved the process of creating something from scratch and seeing it come to life. Each line of code felt like solving a puzzle. By the time I completed my first small project, twinkling stars with a shooting star passing through the background using only HTML and CSS, I felt a great sense of accomplishment—and I was ready for more.
However, it was cybersecurity that really captured my interest. I discovered how vital it is to identify vulnerabilities and protect sensitive information. Did you know that in 2022, there were over 2 million reported cyber incidents globally? This statistic underscored the importance of security in our digital lives. The thrill of uncovering weaknesses in systems and fortifying them ignited a newfound sense of purpose in my work. It wasn’t just about coding; it was about making the internet a safer place for everyone.
